How to install Araz on Minecraft (Fabric, step by step)
How to install Minecraft mods with Fabric, using Araz: pick the build for 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 or 1.20.1, add Fabric API and GeckoLib, launch.
In short Araz is a Fabric-only horror mod for Minecraft 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 and 1.20.1. To install it, run the Fabric loader installer for your exact Minecraft version, then drop three jars into the mods folder: Fabric API, GeckoLib and Araz 1.0.0-beta.2. On a server the mod goes on the server and on every client.
Araz is a Fabric horror mod, so installing it is the ordinary Fabric routine. You install the loader, then you put three jar files in your mods folder: Fabric API, GeckoLib and Araz itself. That is the whole job.
The current release is Araz 1.0.0-beta.2 and it exists for Minecraft 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 and 1.20.1. There is no Forge or NeoForge build. Pick the file that matches the Minecraft version you actually play.
I wrote the mod, so every number below is read straight out of the files that ship with it, and I say where each one comes from. Budget about ten minutes, most of it downloading.
Which Araz build fits your Minecraft version?
Araz ships one file per Minecraft version and they are not interchangeable. The table below is read from the fabric.mod.json and build.gradle inside each build of Araz 1.0.0-beta.2, as of September 2026.
| Minecraft version | Fabric Loader | GeckoLib | Java |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26.3 | 0.19.3 or newer | 5.5.6 or newer (raised in the 26.3 release, see the Araz changelog) | 25 |
| 26.1.2 | 0.19.3 or newer | 5.5.2 or newer | 25 |
| 1.21.10 | 0.19.3 or newer | 5.3-alpha-3 | 21 |
| 1.20.1 | 0.15.0 or newer | 4.8.x (GeckoLib 5 does not exist for 1.20.1) | 17 |
How to install Araz with the Fabric loader
Eight steps, from an empty profile to the mod list. If you have installed a Fabric mod before, the first three will be familiar and you can skip ahead.
Pick your Minecraft version
Decide whether you are playing 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 or 1.20.1. Every step after this one depends on that choice.
Install the Fabric loader
Get the official Fabric installer from fabricmc.net and run it. Choose the same Minecraft version you just picked and let it create the Fabric profile in your launcher.
Launch the Fabric profile once
Start the game on that profile and close it at the title screen. This creates the
modsfolder inside your game directory.Download Fabric API and GeckoLib
Both are required by Araz. Take the files built for your exact Minecraft version. On 26.3 take GeckoLib 5.5.6 or newer, which the Araz changelog lists as the minimum.
Download Araz
Get Araz 1.0.0-beta.2 from Modrinth or CurseForge. Check that the file name carries your Minecraft version before you download it.
Put the jars in the mods folder
Drop the three jar files into
.minecraft/mods. Do not unzip them and do not put them in subfolders.Add the optional mods if you want them
Simple Voice Chat enables voice mimicry. Mod Menu together with Cloth Config gives you the in-game settings screen. Skipping all three costs you nothing in the story.
Launch and check the mod list
Start the Fabric profile again. Araz 1.0.0-beta.2 should appear in the mod list next to Fabric API and GeckoLib.
Which mods does Araz need?
Two required, three optional. This is the same set as the requirements table on the Araz page on Modrinth.
| Mod | Required | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric API | Yes | The base library almost every Fabric mod builds on. |
| GeckoLib | Yes | Runs the creature model and its animations, including the totem execution cinematic. |
| Simple Voice Chat | No | Voice mimicry. Without it that one feature is simply gone and the mod runs fine. |
| Mod Menu | No | Opens the in-game settings screen. |
| Cloth Config | No | Draws that settings screen. Needed together with Mod Menu. |
Without Mod Menu and Cloth Config the mod still has every feature. You edit config/araz.json by hand instead of using the settings screen, and the file holds all of the same options.
What you should see on the first launch
A clean install is quiet at first. That is the intended behaviour, and it is also the main reason people think the install failed.
- Open the mod list. Araz 1.0.0-beta.2, Fabric API and GeckoLib should all be listed.
- Create a new world and type
/araz help. It answers with your next step, which proves the server side of the mod is running. - Play normally. A few minutes into a new world the creature shows itself once, in daylight, looks at you and leaves.
- Right after that the coordinates of the abandoned camp arrive in chat.
The camp is abandoned. Four bedrolls. Zero people.
How to install Araz on a server
Araz has a server side and a client side, so the jar goes in both places. A client without it cannot join a server that has it, and a server without it never spawns the creature no matter what the players have installed.
- Put Araz, Fabric API and GeckoLib in the server's
modsfolder and in every player'smodsfolder. - Use the same Minecraft version and the same mod versions on both sides.
- Simple Voice Chat, if you want voice mimicry, also has to be on the server and on the clients.
- The creature gets tougher when more players are nearby, and it leaves a skull and a sign where it kills someone, so your friends will find the spot.
- Multiplayer is the part I have tested least. Single player gets the most testing, so multiplayer reports on the Araz Discord are genuinely useful.
Installation problems and how to fix them
Five symptoms cover almost every install report I get on the Araz Discord.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The game crashes on startup and the log mentions geckolib | GeckoLib is missing or too old for your Minecraft version | Install GeckoLib for that exact version. On Minecraft 26.3 the mod needs 5.5.6 or newer. |
| Fabric refuses to load the mod and names a Minecraft version | The Araz file is built for a different Minecraft version | Download the Araz file for the version you launch: 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 or 1.20.1. |
| Single player works, the server never shows anything | The mod is installed only on the client, or only on the server | The jar has to be on the server and on every client, with Fabric API and GeckoLib on both sides. |
| Nothing happens in the first minutes of a new world | The one-time first sighting is on a timer, and nothing else can show the creature before it has played | Keep playing, then type /araz help. It reads your progress and names the next step. |
| There is no Araz section in the settings menu | Mod Menu or Cloth Config is missing | Install both, or edit config/araz.json directly. Every option, including hafifMod and isikHassasiyeti, exists in that file. |
Can you add Araz to an existing world?
Yes. Nothing in Araz touches world generation. The abandoned camp and the portal ruin are built when you get close to them, which is also why the mod sits safely next to worldgen and structure mods. Worlds from beta.1 keep working.
One honest note about what you are installing. Araz 1.0.0-beta.2 is a beta. Part I of the story is complete and playable, single player is tested the most, and the portal in the ruin stays dark because Part II is not out yet.

Frequently asked questions
Does Araz work on Forge or NeoForge?
No. Araz is a Fabric mod only, for Minecraft 26.3, 26.1.2, 1.21.10 and 1.20.1. There is no Forge or NeoForge build of Araz 1.0.0-beta.2 and no plan for one.
Do I need GeckoLib to run Araz?
Yes. GeckoLib is required alongside Fabric API, because it runs the creature's model and animations. On Minecraft 26.3 the Araz changelog lists GeckoLib 5.5.6 as the minimum.
Do my friends need the mod to join my server?
Yes. Araz has to be installed on the server and on every client, together with Fabric API and GeckoLib. A player without the mod cannot join a server running it.
Can I install Araz in a world I already play?
Yes. Nothing in the mod touches world generation, so existing worlds are safe. The abandoned camp and the portal ruin are built when you approach them.
Why have I not seen the creature yet?
The one-time first sighting happens a few minutes into a new world, and nothing else can show the creature before it has played. Type /araz help and it will tell you your next step.
Which Java version does Araz need?
The Minecraft 26.3 and 26.1.2 builds need Java 25, the 1.21.10 build needs Java 21 and the 1.20.1 build needs Java 17, according to the fabric.mod.json in each build.
